This proposed gTLD is being submitted by Charleston Road Registry, wholly owned by Google. The purpose of .gmail is to provide a dedicated space on the internet in which Google can innovate on its Gmail offerings.

Google's mission with the gTLD is to provide a dedicated domain space in which second-level domains that relate to groups or organizations can be created.

In addition, Google expects the new gTLD will simplify the Gmail experience by establishing a new generation of email addresses such as [email protected], for example.

The proposed gTLD is designed to enhance consumer choice with the availability of second-level domain space, expand Gmail's namespace and improve the user experience.
